PRP
Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment (PRP)
Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment, or PRP, is a relatively new term in the medical field. PRP is a new treatment option used to treat muscular, skeletal and orthopaedic pain. PRP is an autologous blood derivative, which means it is a blood product obtained from your own body and given back to you via a PRP injection. In the case of an injury needing treatment whether it is muscular, orthopaedic and even a brain injury, PRP utilises the body’s natural inflammatory process to accelerate and enhance healing.
How is the PRP obtained?
The first step in obtaining PRP is by drawing blood, from the patient and into sterile tubes. The tubes are then centrifuged which separates the blood into its various components (Red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.) The platelets are then isolated from the blood. This process is what gives PRP its name, due to the high concentration of platelets which are the result of the process. After the platelets are isolated, the PRP is activated using LED Light technology. The solution (PRP) is then injected into the injured area. The platelets are attracted to areas of inflammation and attach to the problem area. Platelets then release growth factors, which are called stem cells, by chemical signalling. Stem cells then migrate to the injured area and accelerate the healing process.
In short, photo activated PRP speeds up the healing process by accelerating the multiplication of the stem cells coming to the rescue.
PRP is used for a wide variety of injuries including:
- Osteoarthritis
- Degenerative knees
- Sports injuries
- Joint pain
- Spinal injuries
- Wounds
- Facial Rejuvenation
- Neurodegenerative disorders (Includes cellular detox program)
